The NJ Hurl is modeled after the real contest – the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association in Sussex County, Delaware. Those guys have been chunkin punkins for more than 23 years and a few of us in southern Jersey are hooked on it.
The organizers of the NJ Hurl are deeply involved in the Boy Scouting movement. We’d like to achieve two things with the NJ Hurl. The first is to promote and execute a major feeder event for the Delaware World Championship, which is conducted the first weekend of November each year by running an event with an emphasis on children-run machines. The NJ Hurl is strategically set for one month prior to the big event in Delaware. We are merely a stepping stone to try out new techniques, new machines, improved machines and to introduce this interesting pastime to our youth and anyone else who wants to try it out.
The second goal of the NJ Hurl Association is to contribute all proceeds to the Boy Scouts units who build a machione and compete by providing Camper Scholarships to directly to those units.. Camping is the number one reason boys join and stay in Scouting. We’d like to help promote this with their participation. NJ Hurl will alos make a contribution to a charity of each non-BSA team's choice.
But…NJ Hurl is open to all groups of youth and adults. There are almost no limiting factors as to who can participate! We have classes of machines for all budgets, level of expertise, and levels of craziness!

The competition has been created to introduce as many people as possible to the practical application of physics through a friendly, bragging rights-only contest.
This is an event that the public is welcome to attend as well. Atlantic City offers, well you know. The lights are always on…
